there's tons of places where the world just gets chopped off and a mountain just gets a huge flat face (for example).. sometimes it just continues as an ocean but sometimes two biomes are right next to each other. whats that all about? its not a straight line either :/

Xerox is probably right. Since the world is originally 1.0, but only the generated chunks are 1.0, new chunks use the 1.1 worldgen code, and it's likely that it didn't properly understand its surrounding chunks, and loaded what it thought is best, likely causing shears, or incorrect biomes. :3
